It has one of the best collections of animals worldwide and focuses on combining education with entertainment, making it the perfect place to take your children to for the day.
Today, the zoo is open all year round and operates a series of successful breeding programmes which support many rare and unusual species of animals, as well as scientific research, and educational and recreational activities. Lisbon Zoo currently has more than 2,000 animals and 350 different species, which are accomodated in areas that are as similar as possible to their natural habitats. Around 800,000 people visit the zoo annually.

The Lisbon Oceanarium has a large collection of marine species including birds, mammals and fish, totalling to about 16,000 individuals of 450 species. The Lisbon Oceanarium is one of the few aquariums in the world to house a sunfish due to their unique and demanding requirements for care.
