Festival dos Oceanos (Ocean’s festival) is an annual and colorful event the Portiguese capital that celebrates the power of the seven seas on dry land. It lasts for more than two weeks and is free to see. The series of events take place at the National Park, the Belém Tower, the historic city centre and along the side of Tagus river.

Throughout Portugal, June is the month of the Festas dos Santos Populares, or Feast Days of the Popular Saints, an important moment for the Portuguese community to come together to celebrate their most revered Saints, San Antonio, San Juan y 29 San Pedro.
During that time, the beautiful city of Lisbon is transformed into a carnaval of colour, scents and sounds. The whole city is taken over by parades, bonfires, dancing in the street, live music, parties and feasting. Coloured lights, lanterns and decorations adorn the streets, while scents of basil and grilled sardines make one’s mouth water in anticapation of the feasts to be eaten.
Some other special traditions include people presenting each other with little pots of basil, and poems written on paper carnations, serving as signs of affection. For the Portuguese people, the Festas dos Santos Populares represent an important moment, as they bring people from different social and cultural backgrounds together in a moment of brotherhood, love and happiness. …read more

Queer Lisboa, is a festival of gay and gesbian film and was founded in 1997 by Celso Junior, director of the festival until 2004 and Gonçalo Diniz, president of the Ilgi Portugal – International Lesbian and Gay Association.
